The URL and title of the blog are a reference to a Shakespeare play: Henry VI part 2. The Earl of Warwick refers to ’nice sharp quillets of the law’ with quillet meaning subtilty, which is the source of inspiration for the blog’s name.

Shakespeare’s works are littered with legal and political references, the most famous of which is the line ‘The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers’, which has become part of broader discourse about legal professionals. There are many ways to interpret the line, some argue it highlights the role lawyers play in upholding the legal system, others say it is about the role of laywers in upholding the status quo by protecting those whom are in power. What runs through both interpretations, is a preoccupation with the ideas of justice and its relationship with the rule of law, which is the main subject of this blog.
